Forces and Magnets

Writer's picture: Lucy KentLucy Kent
It has been a busy week in Hummingbird's class; we have started to explore forces and magnets. The children worked extremely hard to create an experiment where we could test the friction between a roll along vehicle and different surfaces.

They learnt to make predictions about which surfaces they believed would have more friction and which would have less. They based their predictions on what they already knew and were able to write about the properties of the materials that were being tested.

They decided that we needed to drop the vehicle down a ramp onto different surfaces and then they would be able to identify which surface had the most friction with the vehicle. We measured with a ruler, how far the vehicle rolled on each surface.

We recorded the results of this test as a class; ensuring that the conditions were the same for each surface tested. We recorded the data and then concluded our findings.
